Abel G. Mattos

Abel Mattos was born in Havana on June 17, 1974 and has been interested in art and fascinated by painting since he was a small child. A self-taught painter in a neoexpressionist style. Abel Matos chooses to represent the degredation of the once beautiful buildings of Havana, Cuba as an ever changing wave, first drawing the eye one way and then the other. His style is very reminisent of the fluid and colorful paintings of such artists as Romare Bearden and Thomas Hart Benton.

From last 8 years he has created that he has called “The City of the Cats”. Over and over has recreated his own image of the Havana city, a mixture of reality and imagination, hard life and colors, realities and wishes.

With a very prolific work, his art has been exhibited in Spain, Jamaica, USA, Switzerland, and France. In Cuba you can find his work every where, Hotels, Galleries, Ferias. Private collections around the world own works from this excellent painter.
